How do you become a member?
It’s remarkably easy. Any donation to the Red Raider Scholarship Fund makes you a member of the Red Raider Club! These donations are directed to academic scholarships for Texas Tech's student-athletes, allowing us to field the most competitive teams while ensuring bright futures for talented young men and women.
Why are membership contributions needed?
Texas Tech Athletics is committed to offering each sport the full number of scholarships allowed by NCAA guidelines. As of the 2008 fiscal year, in-state scholarships (covering tuition and fees, books, and room and board) cost the athletic department $16,000 per student while scholarships for out-of-state student-athletes cost $24,399 each. That means the current total of 216.3 allotted scholarships requires an outlay of approximately $4.3 million per year for the fall and spring semesters.
Further, the cost of scholarships is the first thing to come out of athletics revenues, diminishing what’s available for investments in staff, state-of-the-art training equipment and other enhancements that help Texas Tech compete within our conference, the NCAA and nationally. There are no government funds to fill the gap; it is up to all of us, through membership contributions to the Red Raider Scholarship Fund, to cover scholarship costs.
Membership contributions to the Red Raider Scholarship Fund are instrumental in making up the difference between other revenue sources and the full costs of scholarships, travel, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and other day-to-day operating needs. They are the core of Red Raider Power!
