Clifford B. Jones Named Position
Scholarship Endowments

A self-educated businessman and civic leader, Clifford B. Jones was a successful banker, rancher, company executive and public servant. He became president of Texas Tech University in 1939. Prior to his death in 1972, Jones and his wife Audrey provided the first gift to establish the initial Clifford B. Jones Scholarship.

The Clifford B. Jones Endowment, created in 1999, is designed to ensure the quality and excellence of the athletic program at Texas Tech University. Its goal is to permanently and fully endow athletic scholarships for all sports at Texas Tech, which requires securing a total of $43 million in funding.

For a minimum gift of $200,000, you can fund an endowed scholarship in support of the sport and athletic position you choose. The Clifford B. Jones Named Position Scholarship Endowment gives you naming rights to a player position on any Texas Tech Athletics team. For example, you may choose to support a scholarship for the position of linebacker, pitcher or forward. These scholarship endowments make a singular statement of your commitment to future student-athletes while paying tribute to a loved one or family member, someone you knew or watched at Texas Tech, or to reflect a position you played.

This commitment offers two donation options:

  • A cash gift of $200,000 to establish a named position endowment, payable over five years.
  • A cash gift of $10,000 per year designated to the Named Position Scholarship Fund for ten years, coupled with a planned gift designated to the Position Endowment, with a minimum value of $200,000.
